Types of Evaluation

ASAC offers a range of assessment and evaluation services, depending on the age and needs of the client, including:
DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATION (infancy-5 years)

When there are concerns about a young child's language development, emerging social skills, verbal or non-verbal communication, and/or a parent or professional suspects ASD, a developmental evaluation is indicated. This type of evaluation typically consists of:

  • Gold standard ASD diagnostic measures
  • Comprehensive Developmental testing, including evaluation of the child's receptive and developed expressive language, thinking, problem-solving skills, and motor functioning
  • Behavioral Functioning assessment, including evaluation of the child's emotional and independent adaptive functioning
PSYCHOLOGICAL/DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION (6 years through adulthood)

When there are concerns about an individual’s social and communication skills, or if ASD is suspected, a psychological/diagnostic evaluation is indicated. This type of evaluation typically consists of:

  • Gold standard ASD diagnostic measures
  • Comprehensive Cognitive testing, including evaluation of an individual's attention and concentration, processing speed, memory, attention to detail, language usage, pattern analysis and synthesis, abstract reasoning, and other areas of intellectual functioning.
  • Behavioral Functioning assessment, including evaluation of an individual's emotional and independent adaptive functioning.
PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL EVALUATION (6 years through young adults attending school or college)

When there are concerns about academic/school functioning and learning, in addition to concerns about social skills and communication, a psychoeducational evaluation is indicated. This type of evaluation consists of:

  • Gold standard ASD diagnostic measures
  • Comprehensive Cognitive testing, including evaluation of an individual's attention and concentration, processing speed, memory, attention to detail, language usage, pattern analysis and synthesis, abstract reasoning, and other areas of intellectual functioning.
  • Behavioral Functioning assessment, including emotional and independent adaptive functioning
  • Academic Achievement/Learning testing, including reading, written language and mathematical skills, as well as assessment of comprehension, problem-solving style, and memory for academic information.
NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION (6 years through adulthood)

ASAC's neuropsychological evaluations are indicated only when a more complex brain or neurological issue is suspected. These evaluations closely resemble our psychoeducational evaluations, but utilize additional neuropsychological testing instruments to provide specific information about an individual's neurological processing.

INTERNATIONAL EVALUATION (all ages)

ASAC provides bilingual (Spanish) evaluations for clients who reside outside the continental United States. Special arrangements can be made in advance to accommodate the specific scheduling needs of our international clients.

BILINGUAL (Spanish) EVALUATION

We have a bilingual Spanish speaking psychologist on staff who can provide evaluations, reports, and consultations in Spanish.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSULTATION

Our psychologists also offer face-to-face consultation for families who are unsure if an evaluation is warranted, yet are in need of guidance and support in determining the best therapeutic and treatment options.

RE–EVALUATIONS

Families are invited back to ASAC for follow-up evaluations following a comprehensive assessment. Many children return to our team every 2 years during their school years for comprehensive re-evaluation. Recommendations are updated at that time.
