Individual Therapy

We provide treatment for many kinds of problems, including depression, social anxiety, excessive worry, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, family conflict, coping with illness, and self-esteem issues. We treat clients of all ages. Your intake appointment will help us determine what type of therapy we can offer to help you. We do not have emergency or walk-in services, and we cannot provide hospitalization or medication.

Group Therapy

The clinic facilitates various therapy groups throughout the year for clients of all ages. Please call the clinic to obtain information about the groups which are currently being offered. Group topics currently include: social anxiety, coping skills, and healthy lifestyle management.

Couples Therapy

The clinic offers evidence-based couples therapy to married and unmarried couples. Therapists are supportive of relationships and will work to help couples stay together unless the couple is explicitly seeking help achieving a peaceful separation. We do not offer sex therapy.

Assessment

We provide assessment services for adults and children. Specifically, we conduct assessments for behavior and school problems, ADHD, learning disabilities (children and adults), developmental disabilities, giftedness, personality assessment, and infant assessment.

Research Study Programs

Child and Adolescent Mood and Anxiety Treatment

At the CAMAT program, we are currently conducting a treatment project examining a Unified treatment approach for adolescents (aged 12-17) with anxiety disorders and/or depression. This treatment has a strong basis in emotion research and teaches adolescents and their families the strategies that have been shown to be effective across many types of anxiety and depressive disorders. This treatment is provided by predoctoral students in the CAMAT program and may be available at no cost to adolescents that qualify.

The CAMAT program is also currently initiating clinical and research treatment services for individuals with Panic Disorder. If you are interested in learning more about either the Unified or Panic Treatment projects, please contact the lab coordinator at (305) 284-9852 ext 1, or by email at anxietylab@psy.miami.edu.

Trauma Treatment Program

This program compares two different therapies for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The two therapies, called EMDR and PE, have both received experimental support in the past. You might be eligible for this program if you have experienced a major traumatic event such as an assault, childhood abuse, an accident, or a natural disaster, and if you experience symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, flashbacks or intrusive memories of the trauma. If you are interested in being considered for this program, please mention this to the person who takes your call, and you will be contacted by a trauma therapist for a screening.
