Heather A. Henderson, Ph.D
Dr. Henderson is the Director of the Social Development Laboratory and an Assistant Professor in the Child Division of the Department of Psychology at the University of Miami. Dr. Henderson completed her B.Sc. at McMaster University in Canada and her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland-College Park. Her research program focuses on social and emotional development in typically-developing children, children with extreme temperaments (e.g., extreme shyness), and children with autism. She uses multiple methods to study individual differences including psychophysiology (EEG/ERP) and behavioral observations of children's interactions with adults and peers. Dr. Henderson's research is currently supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the Marino Autism Research Institute. She serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Behavioral Development and as a reviewer for numerous professional journals and granting agencies. In addition to her research, Dr. Henderson teaches classes in Developmental Psychology and Experimental Psychology. She has received awards for her outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
