What is an EEG?
- EEG is a safe and painless way to record the natural electrical activity of the brain. The procedure involves placing a cap on the childs head. The cap contains sensors that pick up the very weak electrical signals that occur with brain activity.
Is there a cost involved?
- No, in fact, families will receive monetary compensation for their participation during each visit.
Where does the actual testing take place?
- All of the testing takes place at the University of Miami, Coral Gables campus, in the Department of Psychology. We are located on the 3rd floor of the FH Flipse Building
What is involved?
- Depending on the studies one is eligible for, participants will complete selected diagnostic, neuropsychological, physiological and behavioral evaluations, and optional saliva samples.
- Depending on the studies one is eligible for, total time commitment can range from one to five visits to the laboratory.
- Appointments can be scheduled based on the family's availability.
Can I participate in more than one study?
- Individuals can participate in as many studies as they qualify for. New studies are continuously added; therefore, prior participants may return.
What are the benefits and risks of participation?
- There are no direct benefits to the child or parent participating in the study
- All of our studies are approved by the University of Miami IRB
- Participation in this research will help us learn how to work more effectively with all children including those who are typically developing as well as those with specific disabilities such as autism, learning disabilities, and anxiety disorders
- There are no known, substantial risks to the parent or child participating in this research.
- What is most important is that participation is completely voluntary and the parent and child have full control over the situation at all times. If a parent or child in the study wishes to terminate their participation at any time for any reason, they are free to do so without any negative consequences.
What are the benefits and risks of participation?
- By participating, you may help improved interventions and diagnosis of autism.

- You will be helping enhance research and technology

- You will help researcher gain a better understanding of autism, anxiety disorders, ADHD and learning disabilities.
