Interdisciplinary Training in Education Research and Advanced Statistical Methods

This initiative is supported by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) in the US Department of Education.

Faculty Research Areas:

Emphasis is on the study of low-income and bilingual populations in urban settings who are at risk for poor educational outcomes.  Research topics include:

  • Early intervention for children
    • served by Head Start
    • prenatally exposed to cocaine
    • with autism spectrum disorders
    • with language delays
    • with special needs
    • with cochlear implants
    • who are second language learners
  • Developmental epidemiology
  • School readiness
  • Emergent literacy and the acquisition of reading skills
  • The teaching, learning, and assessment of mathematics and science
