| ASAC was developed
in 2002, as the need for comprehensive diagnostic
evaluations for children with autism and other
pervasive developmental disorders increased. The
purposes of the evaluation are to determine current
level of functioning, clarify diagnosis, and provide
treatment recommendations. ASAC includes an
interdisciplinary team of professionals, including
clinical psychologists, doctoral level psychology
students, behavior analysts, and consulting
clinicians from CARD who assist in the assessment
process and who ensure that individuals diagnosed
with autism and their families are connected to CARD
services and supports.
Advantages of
an ASAC Evaluation
Expertise and Experience
– With over 40 years of combined experience, our
team members are highly skilled in performing
comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for individuals
suspected of developmental disorders. |

Team Approach – The
ASAC team is diverse in their expertise and
interests
and includes a multidisciplinary team of
professionals, including clinical psycho-
logists,
doctoral level psychology students, behavior
analysts, and consulting clinicians from CARD. The
duration of the assessment is reduced, as team
members divide testing components. The ASAC team
works together with families to formulate a
comprehensive and individualized treatment plan for
each client.
UM-NSU CARD – ASAC’s
ongoing collaboration with the
University of Miami
/ Nova Southeastern University
Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), a
nonresidential resource center, ensures that
families of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum
disorders will be connected directly to free
clinical, outreach, and support services.
A University Research Center
– ASAC is a specialty clinic within the
University of
Miami's Psychology Department. Within this academic
setting, our team members are involved in developing
and conducting autism research and training future
researchers and clinicians in the scientific study,
assessment, and treatment of people with
developmental disabilities, in general, and autism
in particular.
Cultural Awareness – As
an integral part of the South Florida community, our
team is sensitive to linguistic and cultural
diversity. Many of our team members are fluent in
Spanish.
